Changes to your appearance

During treatment you may experience changes to your appearance. Dependent on the cancer type and treatment these changes can vary vastly and are every person will react differently. Some of the most common changes include looking tired, changes in weight, rashes and hair loss. However there is support and way to manage and cope with these changes. 


Macmillan Appearance Videos

​This YouTube playlist  offers a series of short, practical videos designed to help individuals undergoing cancer treatment manage appearance-related side effects.

The videos cover topics such as skincare, makeup application, and personal styling, providing guidance on how to enhance one's appearance and boost self-esteem during treatment.


Look Good Feel Better

The Look Good Feel Better website offers free, non-medical workshops designed to help individuals undergoing cancer treatment manage appearance-related side effects. These workshops, available both in-person and online, provide guidance on skincare, makeup, hair loss, and styling, aiming to boost confidence and self-esteem. Participants also receive beauty kits and have the opportunity to connect with others facing similar challenges, fostering a supportive community


Hair Loss

Hair loss can be a side effect of some cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, but not everyone will experience it. The extent and type of hair loss can vary depending on the treatment, and in many cases, it is temporary.

Coping with Hair Loss

Wig Vouchers

If you choose to have a wig during your cancer treatment, you will be entitled to a Wig Voucher. This provides financial support to the payment of a wig, sometimes covering the full or partical amount, depending on your wig choice. This voucher can be used at several salons across the county, where the wig will be chosen, fitted and styled.

Wig Bank

The Lincoln Macmillan Information & Support Centre also have a Wig Bank, providing access to over 200 wigs with no charge. The bank also has a volunteer stylist to ensure wigs are cut and styled to the individuals needs.
