Life can be tough when you are living with cancer or even after treatment ends. No one should have to face these feelings alone. Help to Overcome Problems Effectively (HOPE) can help you to get more out of life.

 

What is HOPE?
HOPE is a licensed programme developed by Coventry University and Macmillan Cancer Support to help people who have had/or have cancer to get on with their lives. It is an interactive, group based, self management support course, which runs for 6 weeks , with each weekly session lasting 2.5 hours. It is for groups of between 6 and 12 and is free to attend.

The sessions are run by trained HOPE facilitators who are either health or social care professionals or trained volunteers who have had a cancer experience.

Who is it for?
Adults, aged 18 and over, who are coming to the end of treatment/surgery or have recently completed it. Anyone living with and beyond cancer.

How will the course benefit you?
The course concentrates on focusing and rediscovering your inner strengths and resilience to help you cope emotionally, psychologically and practically. Time is spent in facilitated discussions, group activities, information sharing and tools for you to try at home in between each session. The course deals with:

  • Goal setting and action planning
  • Looking for solutions to problems
  • Stress management (e.g. mindfulness and relaxation)
  • Fatigue management
  • Identifying your strengths
  • Becoming more positive, grateful and appreciating life more
  • Healthy lifestyles (e.g. eating more healthily and physical activity)
  • Prioritising the important things in life
  • Fear of cancer recurrence
  • Body image and sexuality and intimacy
  • Communication skills

Out of Hours Support

Crisis Cafes

Night Light Cafés are safe spaces that offer an out-of-hours, non-clinical support service and are staffed by teams of trained volunteers who are available to listen. They can also provide signposting advice and information on other organisations that may be able to help with specific needs, such as debt advice or emergency food parcels. Psycho-oncology Support

The Lincolnshire psycho-oncology service is a specialist psychology service.  The service is part of the physical health psychology speciality.  

The Psycho-oncology team provide psychological therapy for adults with cancer diagnosis.  Our aim is to support adults experiencing emotional issues during their cancer treatment. 

Referrals can come from any source. Patients can refer themselves into this service.  Most referrals come from Nurse Specialists and Medical Consultants.

Lincolnshire Talking Therapies

A cancer diagnosis can affect the emotional health of patients, families and caregivers, our team of experienced and qualified professionals will work with you to help you understand your feelings and show you new ways of coping.

Lincolnshire Talking Therapies provides talking therapies for people 16 years and older experiencing problems with anxiety, depression, stress, and offers help with issues like bereavement or the impact of a traumatic event.

One in four of us will experience a common mental health problem such as anxiety, stress or depression at some point in our lives. Lincolnshire Talking Therapies is a free NHS service that provides a range of evidence based talking therapies for problems such as depression, anxiety, post-trauma reaction, panic, phobia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Lincolnshire Talking Therapies (Long-Term Condtions)

Lincolnshire Talking Therapies Long Term conditions service (LTC) is a dynamic service which provides support for adults diagnosed with a long-term health condition (LTC) or medically unexplained symptoms (MUS), who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression.

Living with a long-term health condition can be very frightening and we know that a persons physical and mental health are closely linked, there is clear evidence that the presence of LTC’s or MUS increase the risk of Mental Health problems and vice versa.

What treatment do we offer?

Lincolnshire Talking Therapies LTC service offers CBT which is delivered by trained CBT therapists that is delivered at both Low and High intensity – CBT looks at the way we think and behave and how this impacts on the way we feel. We also provide Counselling which focuses on emotional issues and have specialist employment advisors that can support with any employment issues. We offer these therapies in many different forms, Face to face within healthcare settings, Digital and telephone and we aim to work as closely as possible with physical healthcare teams to provide a fully integrated model of care.

 

Treatment adaptations

We will adapt therapy where necessary to account for peoples individual needs, we will also adapt session lengths, add breaks to sessions if necessary. We can also offer adaptations to number of sessions and will be flexible with the cancellation policy/DNA policy if physical healthcare appointments clash and treatments mean sessions need to be rearranged.

We will also offer joint appointments with physical healthcare teams to integrate care fully and to provide joined up working. We will also offer home visits if people are housebound due to their physical health condition.

Macmillan - Bupa Counselling

 

Free Specialist Counselling

Through Bupa, Macmillan are offering up to six counselling free counselling sessions for people struggling emotionally because of cancer. Within days, people who are eligible can receive specialist support.
